TOM Cruise and Nicole Kidman’s only son, Connor Cruise, lived up to his name when he arrived at Coolangatta Airport yesterday ahead of his exclusive DJ set at Love Nightlife, in Broadbeach.
Eschewing the five-star treatment his family is accustomed to, there wasn’t a minder in sight as the relaxed and smiling DJ and actor, dressed in runners and long denim shorts with a black hoodie pulled over his afro-twist curls, disembarked from a Virgin commercial flight from Sydney.
Sporting a gold and silver-studded backpack of carry-on luggage, Connor Anthony Kidman Cruise was met by a driver and taken to a hotel in Broadbeach.
Performing under his musical stage name DJ Cruz and travelling solo, the 19 year old is to play the first of two-only Australia shows, at Love Nightlife.
His only other show is a festival set at the final leg of the Good Life under 18s music festival in mum Nicole Kidman’s hometown of Sydney on Sunday.
Asked why he had chosen the Coast for his only club show, Cruise replied: “It seemed like a good place.”
He said the visit marked his “first time” on the Coast after a planned club show here as part of his last tour 12 months ago fell through at the last minute.
However, celeb spotters hoping to catch a glimpse of him out and about at the beach or local theme parks could be disappointed.
Asked what he was most looking forward to during his stay, Cruise replied: “Sleeping.”
“I’ve been travelling for a whole day. I came from Los Angeles.”
Cruise, who began his DJ career performing under the moniker C-Squared, described his DJ style as “electronic”.
“You’ll have to come and see,” he teased.
While he doesn’t give interviews Cruise is active on Instagram (theconnorcruise) and Twitter (#theconnorcruise).
Shortly after landing he posted on Instagram and Tweeted: “Let’s go Australia!!!! Tomorrow night I’m at Love nightlife and Sunday at Good Life festival Sydney!”
He had earlier Tweeted from Sydney: “Just landed in Australia, rolling solo on the trip #NomadLife #Australia #SecondHome”.
Adopted by Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman in February 1995, Cruise uses the name DJ Cruz for his music career to distance himself from his uber-famous parents.
Also an actor, his film credits include roles in 2012 war thriller Red Dawn, alongside Aussie actors Chris Hemsworth, Isabel Lucas and Josh Hutcherson, and 2008 drama Seven Pounds, in which he played a young Will Smith
He has four siblings: older sister Isabella Jane Kidman, younger half-sister Suri Cruise and younger half sisters Sunday Rose Kidman Urban and Faith Margaret Kidman Urban.
Particularly close to his famous father, Cruise and sister Isabella were raised in the Church of Scientology and home-schooled.
