HIS legion of female fans were left devastated earlier this year when there were rumours of an impending engagement, but it seems that Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are far from walking down the aisle.
The Hollywood couple have apparently decided to “take a break” from their two-year romance after realising that things were moving too quickly.
The news that Gosling is single again will, of course, delight his fans but according to reports, Eva is gutted about the split as she “wanted to have his babies”.
“There was a realization before Thanksgiving that they took things way too fast and were rushing toward a marriage that neither of them particularly needed,” a source told Radar Online. “They’ve decided to take a break to reevaluate their romance.”
The source added that the Canadian actor has been laying low due to his latest movie ‘Only God Forgives’ not doing so well, but he has big things planned for 2014 – including the release of his directorial debut ‘How to Catch a Monster’ which stars Mendes.
“The real question is how Eva is going to figure into Ryan’s plans,” the source continued. “They both know they need some kind of resolution in their relationship before they go out and promote their movie, in which Ryan directed Eva in a very big part.
“At the end of the day they are both so uncertain about their future.”
Earlier this year it was thought that Gosling was set to propose after calling Mendes his girlfriend for two years – but it seems that marriage was actually the last thing on his mind.
In fact, sources suggested that Mendes was left feeling rather upset when Gosling’s ex-girlfriend, Rachel McAdams, called him for comfort following her split from Michael Sheen.
Gosling dated his co-star from ‘The Notebook’ from mid-2005 to mid-2007, and met Mendes whilst filming ‘The Place Beyond The Pines’ in 2011.
